A bloodsucking encounter at Mt. Makiling

(posted at pinoy mountaineering.org)

hi this is ivan again.

Just want to share our experience in climbing mt. makiling via uplb trail

We started and registered at the ranger’s station at aroun 8.30 in the morning.

We told him we’re heading Mudsprings but our real goal is to head to the summit.

The ranger even boasted that we did not look like we are going to the summit. Maybe because of our outfit.

We hiked up and made it to station 7 (befor mudsprings). The vendors there warned us about the dreaded LIMATIKS. Some of us hesitated to go on.

But we did. We passed Mudsprings and Agila campsite. The trail starting Agila campsite I must say is where the challenge begins.

The vendor told us that the limatik infestation will start on Station 20.

But we were just on Station 12 when we saw one tiny thing on our friend’s (JANE) jeans (yes, she was wearing jeans :) ) Then one of our friend (RAYB) saw one on his foot. Just then I looked at mine to check and saw a tiny blood sucker clinging on my left foot. That’s when we panicked and screamed and just ran off.

That was a horrifying experience, to see the bloodsuckers everywhere, (they are on every edge of the plants waiting for us to pass, firmly standing up like a television antenna!)

We reached the board saying Wilderness Zone
There were two paths. We headed the wrong way! Because there were no signs that we should go to the path which was somewhat descending. I suggest to the facilitator or any concerned citizen or mountain climber to fix this. The vendor told us that many hikers got really ost by taking that other trail. Although it points up to the summit, that trail is very dangerous! We didnt reach the summit because we realized that there were not any yellow markers for ten - fifteen minutes and it was raining already. Thunder.

We decided to go down. We met the not so friendly leeches again.

THIS IS THE MOST DREADED PART.

When we stopped over at station 7 again, that was the time when one of our friedn (WILSON) revealed that he feels that there was a limatik on his eye. I looked at it and, yes, the blood sucker (fat, this time) was very comfortable inside his right eye. We panicked (of course) I did the honor of pulling it using a tweezer, but I just could not do it, every time the limatik free itself from the tweezer, everyone will just shout and scream. One villager helped us and pulle dthe limatik using his fingers. Then, we burned the f***ing blood sucker using a cigarette.

Whew. What an experience.
We were not experienced mountain climbers.
We did not reach the summit.
But the experience was wonderful and very memorable.

Wilson said that he wants to climb Makiling via UPLB trail again in the hopes that next time, we shall reach the summit.

(We conducted this as part of our team building activity, we were 16 but only eight of us bravely faced the challenge to hike Mt. Makiling.

Ivan-that’s me. I think I was bitten by at least twenty limatkis along the way

Jane-the first victim of the limatik

Wilson-one limatik entered his eye, tragic,

Mae-the girl scout slash cheerleader

Dan-the quiet guy (on the way down, a huge limatik was biting his arm!!!)

Camille-youngest in the group, 16 years old

Rayb-his sweat could fill a bucket, his legs were also a limatik fave

Tela-scream scream scream “tanggalin nyo tanggalin nyo huhuhu)

I will upload the video of our Mt. Makiling escapade including the limatik on the eye soon on my youtube account

The Beginning Of An Unfinished Story

August 20th, 2006 by ivan-survivor

"Earth is a continuously revolving, massive body. Noone knows when it will stop revolving or what is it’s purpose in doing so. It is a home to countless living organisms and a sanctity for humanity. We are lucky to live life and be it our haven. We cross paths with someone and sometimes we spend many of our time on earth together. We have our mothers and fathers to guide us through life and other special people which have become special because you share something with them and will make you realize how lucky you are in living life on the planet.

All the people that we encounter, meet and connect with are not just ordinary people that we can sometimes take for granted. Out of the millions of possible places on earth, you have walked the same roads, entered the same domicile, and viewed the same horizon. And that isn’t just by accident. Someone powerful must have put you in a place where you will learn the mysterious essence of life. People meet for a reason. Be it by just plain acquaintance or for something more. It is not vivid for them to fully understand it during the first particular instance that they met, but as earth continues to rotate and revolve, the mist will slowly uncover and they can either maintain it, make it grow or just leave it behind. Thus, the only role of destiny is bringing two or more people together. Choosing them and placing them together in one particular situation. But the growth of their connection will not depend on destiny. It depends on them. What is inevitable is that it can either bloom or whither. Who you meet is destiny’s choice, but who you are with is your choice."

It was perfect. It was surreal.

Or was it?

Bingo, Carbon Dioxide, Jennifer Aniston atbp.

April 12th, 2006 by ivan-survivor

/*good charlotte playing*/

Uuwi. Matutulog uli. Gigising ng alas syete. Babalik. Dilat mula alas-10 hanggang alas-6. cycle continues. syete.

/*6cycle mind playing*/

/*bamboo playing*/

One step at a time na.

/*crazy frog playing*/

Enjoy. Chill. Ha ha ha ha.

/*pinoy big brother soundtrack now playing*/

"hi i am ivan laurence f. ignacio. you can call me ivan. i am 5′5 inches tall and weighing 137 lbs. i am an incoming junior student of the university of the philippines in diliman. i love the color blue. almost all my clothes are blue. but right now i’m going for the pink ones, those with that "tough guys wear pink" spirit. i like my chemical romance songs a lot. i am a reality show addict. i am good *ehem* in playing…scrabble. *dork* my crushes right now are jennifer aniston and rachelle mcadams."

It was a roller coaster weekend.

Formal

There were highs.

There were lows

There were spins and turns.

And at one point it seemed that the wheel will finish us all.

Roller coaster of emotions. Destination

Roller coaster of tears.

Roller coaster of laughters.

Roller coaster of fears.F4

Roller coaster of unexpected confrontations, secrets and revelations.

Formal2Gruesome, funny, witty, scary

Intimate, sorrowful, joyful, horny

But I do not regret any of the experience I had in that fatal ride.

Because even though wherever it had taken me, it’s still the best
roller coaster     ride in my life.. ever.Rockers

And thanks for sharing it with me.  Coat

Anatomy: The study of man (II)

Why the heck is Anatomy defined as the study of man?

(and not the study of man and woman?)

I’ve encountered this question a lot and it doesn’t make sense…

aNaToMY - the study of MAN PART ONE

February 8th, 2006 by ivan-survivor

Studying in UP made me aware that the earth is a rotating hell.

Months ago, I was dying to be eighteen. And now my prayer was answered by nature after celebrating my birthday last Tuesday. Darn. Nothing’s new. I am eighteen but earth is still a hell.

ProportionOne of the issues UP students have been constantly hit by is the freakin gender issue, from the paraphernalia to the bulletin board posts to the mouths of your professor, nothing is infamous than this. But as I try to open my eyes as wide as it can be as my professor want me to, I see no oppression of women anymore in the society. I have four eyes but I’m sorry Ma’am, your lecture sucks. Face it.

I do not believe in the religious teaching that there is a total complacency on earth. The fact is there is none. Even the television artists and the politicians (who suck) are superficial in saying they are mostly contented for theirselves and others. Look around you fool. Now the next paragraph is dedicated for those who still imply that there is a gender gap in this country.

Philippines

is now a strong and fair nation. A lot of women are known now in masculine fields and are actually respected. What else should you pout for? Do you want to revise all the dictionaries in the world just so you stop whining?

Most of the people who unfortunately died in the gruesome Wowowowowowee incident are women. Particularly old women. I feel for them and to their families but how desperate we wish that that event would’ve not occurred, there is one fact: we can do nothing. Their souls will not ignite with their bodies anymore to walk the fiery grounds of this hell called earth. Maybe we should be happy for them because maybe they’re now all in paradise and pity ours for we are still in hell. Now you, yes I’m talking to you, who thinks it’s unfair that there is a gender gap here in the

Philippines

and at the same time shouting for injustice because the men in the Ultra crowd didn’t bother to push the women there, you are committing a great fallacy Ma’am. First and foremost, you are in fact participating in discriminating the females. If we set up two lanes in that stadium, one for the women and one for the men, don’t you think it’s more pushing that men can handle themselves and females can not? Then that’s discriminating and that’s opposing yourself. I can not see a reason why you cry out for justice between (among) the sexes and at the same time yell for “there should be a line for the women and line for the men”. It’s no no. I can not hail you. I’m sorry. Please do not cry in front of your class and postpone the lecture just because you hate the university students of this generation for being cynical and inactive. It sucks to my and my classmates’ ears. We did not study in college to always be present in mobilizations and rallies. We can join those things and it’s our prerogative but you can not impell us and expect that we’ll do it. Man. It’s not a gender gap anymore but a generation gap haha…

there are powerful institutions in this society that lurks around the premises of this hell. And in one single snap, tens or hundreds or thousands of people will die. The great fact is they’re leaving hell and MAYBE going to a better, nicer place. Only the dead knows.  >< >< ><

I am not a fan of Wowowee and never will be a fan of Willie Revillame, the event which happened is a dooming fact that

Ha ha good relief that that professor is not on my friend’s list :p
